Jürgen Klopp has been dealt yet another blow at Liverpool after Diogo Jota suffered a serious injury in the 1-0 win over Manchester City.

The Portugal international will unfortunately miss the World Cup after damaging his calf, and while Klopp failed to put a timeframe on his No.20’s return, the German did say something which should concern Liverpool fans.

Liverpool fans might not see Jota for a while

Well, Klopp has made a habit of using one particular phrase whenever a Liverpool player suffers a serious injury.

When Virgil van Dijk saw his 2020/21 campaign ended by Jordan Pickford, the 55-year-old said Liverpool would wait for the Dutchman “like a good wife is waiting when the husband is in jail” – as quoted by Goal.

Then, after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sustained damage to multiple ligaments in his knee during the 2018 Champions League semi-final win over Roma, ruling him out for almost the entirety of the following season as well, Klopp used the same line.

As quoted by BT Sport, the Liverpool boss said at the time: “I told him already we will wait for him like a good wife when a man is in prison.”

Now, Klopp has used that exact quote when talking about Jota, which should maybe spark some cause for concern amongst the Anfield faithful.

As quoted by Liverpool’s official website, he said: “We will wait for him like a good wife waits for her husband in prison.”

Hopefully, this isn’t the line Klopp reserves for his most significant injury problems, or else Liverpool fans may not see Jota in action for a while.

Liverpool can sign Diogo Jota alternative

With both Jota and Luis Diaz currently on the sidelines, Klopp’s wide attacking options are quite thin.

Darwin Nunez was chosen to start in the 1-0 win over West Ham alongside Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, although there were hardly any backup options.

Therefore, a move for someone like Wilfried Zaha in January – who Calciomercato believe Liverpool are interested in – would be a wise decision, especially as the Crystal Palace No.11’s contract expires in July.

If Liverpool are to get back to competing with Manchester City, they need more attacking options.
