CalcioMercato claim that Liverpool want to sign Crystal Palace superstar Wilfried Zaha with the Ivory Coast winger’s contract due to expire in June 2023. It comes after Zaha scored once again for Palace against Wolves on Tuesday night.

Zaha, 29, took his tally to five goals in nine Premier League appearances this season. Receiving a neat pass from Odsonne Edouard, Zaha finished calmly past Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa to complete a comeback – winning 2-1.

The ex-Manchester United star’s form has improved of late. Last season, he scored 15 goals and already this time around, the Palace sensation already has a third of that. But his £130,000-a-week contract expires next summer.

The report from CM states that Liverpool are interested in signing Zaha. The Reds have lost Sadio Mane and while Darwin Nunez came in, he has been unable to replace the Senegal international. Zaha is a left-winger, like Mane.

What a signing Zaha would be for Liverpool – but he hardly fits their transfer blueprint. The Reds are looking to reduce the age of their squad, which has proved this season, is getting older and older. They tried to address it in the summer.

They brought in Nunez, Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho. Recent signings such as Harvey Elliott, Ibou Konate and others are examples that Jurgen Klopp is looking to reduce his side’s average age. Zaha would not do that, at 29.

But he would instantly improve Liverpool over the next couple of seasons – and he would save the Reds a whole heap of cash. A superb signing if Liverpool can convince Zaha to move to Anfield. Champions League football would help.

Replacing Mane is tough, but they will go some way to doing that with the addition of Zaha. TransferMarkt report that Zaha has the same agent as Harry Wilson, who Liverpool sold recently. Mikel Arteta has branded him “phenomenal”.
