Mark Lawrenson told Off the Ball that Tottenham should try to appoint Italy boss, Roberto Mancini, as their new manager.

The former Liverpool defender doesn’t understand why Mancini’s name hasn’t been mentioned as a possible candidate when so many names have been considered during these past few months.

From a potential surprise return for Mauricio Pochettino to Spurs possibly pulling off a coup and securing the talents of Antonio Conte.

It’s gone from the above duo to Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso being ruled out as Jose Mourinho’s replacements within 48 hours.

But with Italy being one of the standout teams at Euro 2020 this summer, Lawrenson thinks Mancini should be talked about by those in the North London boardroom.

“The other thing about Mancini is why isn’t he being mentioned for the Tottenham job,” questioned Lawrenson.

“He’s the only manager I know who’s not had a mention.

“Why hasn’t he been mentioned? Uncle Tom Cobley have all been in there. And he’s doing a fabulous job.

“He’s managed in the Premier League and we know what he’s done, so that’s a little bit of strange one.”

Mancini helped Manchester City to their first Premier League title during his time in English football.

That Sergio Aguero goal will, no doubt, go down in history as one of the most memorable moments in the game.

And with his stock only rising since leaving the Etihad, the 56-year-old is perhaps a manager that should be looked at.

But with the Italian’s looking like they are heading towards the semi-finals, at the very least, just how much time will he have if he were to be appointed.

Then again, given the mess Tottenham are in, it begs the question as to why he would want the job even if he was offered it.
