Jack Wilshere has questioned ‘why is it bizarre’ that Arsenal are being linked with Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford this summer, as he told talkSPORT.

The 30-year-old pointed out that ‘Danny Welbeck did it’, then proceeded to argue that the now-Brighton forward was better than Rashford in his pomp.

In 2014, Welbeck left his boyhood club and secured a transfer to Arsenal, before leaving the Emirates five years later.

Arsenal and Manchester United have been involved in a number of high-profile transfers over the years, from that disastrous swap deal to the controversial Robin van Persie move.

And now, there are rumours doing the rounds on the transfer mill that Rashford, who has been out-of-sorts at Old Trafford in recent times, is considering his future at the club, with Arsenal keen, as reported by 90min.

Wilshere provided a brief reaction to those rumours, before arguing that Welbeck is the better player than the 24-year-old.

On Rashford links to Arsenal: “Why is that bizarrely” said Wilshere. “Welbeck did it.”

When Wilshere is then told that Rashford is ‘much better than Welbeck’, he responded: “What!? He’s much better than Danny Welbeck was?

“Hold on, you are talking about the Welbeck that got into the (Manchester United) team that had Tevez, Ronaldo and Rooney?

“He (Welbeck) was (a regular starter for Manchester United). He played games. When he first came into the team, (in comparison, he was better than Rashford).

On who he would take in his pomp: “Welbeck. If Rashford came through at the same time as Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez, would he have played?!”

RASHFORD IS AT A CROSSROADS

It has gone badly wrong for Rashford for well over 12 months now and he simply can’t continue on this current road.

As Wilshere himself will testify, if he does, it won’t be too long before Premier League clubs shy away from wanting him on their books.

But, he currently has plenty of time to make amends, especially at Old Trafford, hence why it’s best he stays put and tries to pick himself up from the canvas under the stewardship of his new boss, Erik ten Hag.

Luckily for Rashford, his style of play does fit what ten Hag wants from his players, so there’s a connection on that front.

Now it’s a case of the player himself trying to bring back the magic that once saw him tear Arsenal apart on debut as a fresh-faced teenager.
