Gavi and Fabian Ruiz measured in tomatoes in a Spanish city

Spanish midfielders Fabian Ruiz and Gavi are from Los Palacios y Villafranca, as they recently returned home after winning the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking of the city, according to Fox News on X, there is an old tradition where winning athletes are rewarded with their weight in tomatoes.

“Spanish midfielders Fabian Ruiz and Gavi returned home to Los Palacios y Villafranca, where a longtime local tradition rewards championship-winning athletes with their weight in tomatoes,” Fox News revealed.

They added, “Ruiz received 187 pounds of tomatoes, while Gavi took home 151 pounds, a unique hometown honor celebrating Spain’s newest World Cup champions.”

The two midfielders have a combined weight of 338 pounds, and locals bought as many pounds of tomatoes for them.

Now, this is a unique tradition, but it’ll certainly leave Gavi and Ruiz wondering what to do with so many tomatoes. The easiest way would be to donate them to a charity.
