Kevin Campbell urges Farhad Moshiri to back Frank Lampard and let him make Everton his own. The Toffees boss is now at risk of the sack after losing 4-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Lampard is approaching the one-year anniversary of his arrival at the Goodison Park helm to replace Rafa Benitez. But the Chelsea icon might not see out a full 12 months in charge with the Merseyside outfit now just one point above the Premier League relegation zone.

Everton have also played one game more than the four teams below them in the table. It may also only be goal difference that stops the Toffees from slipping to the bottom of the pack on even games. While results on Wednesday could sell them fall into the drop zone.
Brighton further ensured Everton have only won once during their last 10 Premier League fixtures with Lampard. The Toffees are also now without a win in six after four defeats and two draws. They last took all three points on October 22 with a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
It was after one win in 13 Premier League games that Moshiri sacked Benitez as Everton’s manager on January 16. The Spaniard was in charge for just six months but the Blues were 16th in the table. They were also six points clear of the drop zone after 19 matches played.
Campbell urges Everton not to sack Lampard and back the head coach
Lampard arrived at Everton on January 31 after Moshiri elected to sack Benitez and led the Blues to safety. But a lack of favourable results so far this season has now put his future in doubt. Yet Toffees hero Campbell would urge the Goodison club to back Lampard, instead.
Campbell also asks Moshiri, who bought a 49.9% stake in the Toffees in February 2016 and hit 94% control in February 2022, where the changes would end if Lampard were to leave.
“I think the relationship between Lampard and the fans is there,” Campbell told Sky Sports. “But there are going to be questions. You have to start questioning if Lampard is the right man for the job, of course, you do.
“I still think he’s never been backed, this has never been his team. If you do pull the trigger and sack him, then you’re bringing in someone else to do the same thing again. So, where do you stop it? He’s there, give him the opportunity to build something.”
Lampard is overseeing a worse per-game record than Benitez achieved
Moshiri has sacked five permanent managers since first buying a stake in Everton back in February 2016. He fired Roberto Martinez in May 2016, Ronald Koeman in October 2017, Sam Allardyce in May 2018, Marco Silva in December 2019 and Benitez in January 2022.
Carlo Ancelotti also walked away from his time at the helm in June 2021 after 18 months in charge. Now, Lampard could become the sixth Everton manager for Moshiri to sack after a worse tenure than Benitez’s. He has 35 points over 36 league games to Benitez’s 19 in 19.
His record gives Lampard an average of 0.97 points per game to Benitez’s 1.00 in the top-flight with Everton. The Toffees are also scoring fewer goals with 33 under Lampard (0.91 per game) so far. Benitez saw his Blues squads net 24 times (1.26 per game) in 19 games.
