Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League was a sobering experience for many of Manchester United’s players – with Casemiro enduring a particularly difficult afternoon.

A brace from Luis Diaz saw the visitors race into a 2-0 lead before the break, which was then increased by an inspired Mohamed Salah in the second period.

The result saw Liverpool maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season, while Manchester United slipped to their second defeat in a row after losing 2-1 to Brighton the week prior.

Following United’s defeat to Liverpool, much of the fans’ ire was directed at Casemiro, who is now being linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Galatasaray consider a move for Manchester United star Casemiro

With the Turkish transfer window not closing until September 13, ESPN claims that Galatasaray could soon launch a bid for the 32-year-old.

Casemiro was unceremoniously hooked off at half-time against Liverpool last weekend, after a nightmare 45 minutes in which he – inadvertently – gifted the visitors their two opening goals.

The midfielder’s club future had already been thrown into doubt after Manchester United signed Manuel Ugarte from PSG in a deal worth a reported £51 million.

Sources informed ESPN that Manchester United remained open to offers for the Brazilian all summer, despite his contract running for another two years.

Casemiro is one of the highest earners at the club and could be sacrificed by the owners this month in a bid to reduce their wage bill.

Salary issues could scupper Galatasaray’s hopes of signing Casemiro

The player’s £300k-a-week salary does present an issue for Galatasaray, however, as a loan deal would likely hinge upon United’s willingness to help cover the cost of that for the duration of the transfer.

Saudi Arabia is another possible destination for the ex-Real Madrid superstar, should United sanction his exit.

Several SPL clubs have been linked with Casemiro this summer, although the anticipated interest never materialised.

Erik ten Hag dismisses Casemiro claim

Meanwhile, Man United manager Erik ten Hag has hit back at claims that Casemiro left Old Trafford at half-time during the side’s home defeat to Liverpool.

Following Sunday’s match, he told TalkSPORT: “That is not true. He was in the dressing room…I just met him.”

Rumours began to swirl on social media after video footage appeared to show Casemiro exiting the stadium before full-time.
