Veteran point guard Trae Young has already taken AJ Dybantsa under his wing.

The Washington Wizards are entering a new era, one where the 2026 No. 1 overall pick, AJ Dybantsa, will one day become the leader of the franchise.

Until then, the Wizards have star point guard Trae Young mentoring Dybantsa, who ensured to greet the top pick of the draft over a phone call.

While Young was the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, he praised Dybantsa for going number one and welcomed him to DC with a motivating message.

“You deserve it, not everybody gets to say they’re the number one pick. … Imma pull up on you in Vegas,” Young said.

Young wasn’t present at the NBA Draft, but he promised Dybantsa they would meet in Vegas, likely during the NBA Summer League.

Additionally, the veteran guard also seemed to hint at giving up his #3 jersey for Dybantsa, who has joked about it multiple times.

Aside from talking on the phone, Young was quick to drop a message on X for his newest teammate with the Wizards.

Young welcomed the rookie to Washington while simultaneously teasing a conversation about giving up his jersey number.

Dybantsa was quick to notice Young’s X post and responded with, “Say no more brudda.”

All things considered, Dybantsa seems more than happy to be drafted by the Wizards and is already forming a strong bond with Young.

But can this new dynamic duo actually lead the Wizards to the playoffs and beyond? Only time will tell.
