It is believed to have started in 2002 although it did not become a mainstream topic until almost a decade later.
There is not actually a saint who goes by the name of Totteringham.
The phrase is actually a combination of the word tottering – which means unstable – and Tottenham.
Arsenal fans have been unable to celebrate St Totteringham’s Day since the 2015/16 campaign when they finished second in the Premier League, with Spurs finishing third and Leicester of all sides winning the title.
Earliest Arsenal can celebrate St Totteringham’s Day
If Arsenal win their next two games in the Premier League – which come against Liverpool at Anfield and West Ham at the London Stadium – they can celebrate St Totteringham’s Day on Sunday 16th April after the latter outing.
St Totteringham’s Day could come even sooner for the Gunners if they beat Liverpool and Tottenham lose to Brighton in their next Premier League outing.
Nevertheless, if Tottenham win that game and their following fixture against Bournemouth, Arsenal can still celebrate St Totteringham’s Day by picking up six points against Liverpool and West Ham.
