Andrew Whitworth spoke on the Rich Eisen Show about the reaction among former players and coaches after Bill Belichick was not named a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
“Bill Belichick is not a first-ballot Hall of Famer? You’re already shaking your head. I’ll give you the floor on the subject matter. It’s just disappointing, Rich. I mean, I think you look at it over the years.
“I think everybody that played it, coached it, has been around the NFL sees Bill Belichick as the standard and his greatness and who he is as a football coach and what he was able to accomplish over his time in New England.“
“I even think of the impact he had on guys like Nick Saban and others, and now even Mike Vrabel, who’s sitting there coaching in the Super Bowl right now.“
He said the controversy was unnecessary and reflected poorly on the voting process of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“This should not even be a conversation. It is ridiculous that it exists at all.”
Whitworth framed the situation as discouraging for those who played under or competed against Belichick.

Andrew Whitworth said the issue was not about debate or differing opinions, but about how the voting process was handled.
He argued that personal feelings had been allowed to influence a decision that should have been straightforward.
“I think it’s a bad look for people that vote in this because it shows bias. You can like him, you can hate him, but there is no argument. He is one of the greatest coaches that has ever coached this sport.
“The debate should be among observers and fans, not whether he is a first ballot Hall of Famer. That part should not be questioned.“
“These are conversations for talk shows and coffee shops. There is no debate. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame the first chance you get.”
Whitworth added that situations like this only invite further scrutiny of the voting system, especially from any future nominees.
