When asked to weigh in on Shedeur Sanders, the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach responded with the kind of no-nonsense answer fans have come to expect.

The question came in the lead-up to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the Cleveland Browns, with some wondering about Shedeur Sanders’ progress and future.
But Tomlin didn’t bite, instead making it clear that Sanders’ development wasn’t his concern, and stopping him and the Browns was.
“It does not matter. He is not a Pittsburgh Steeler. He plays for the Cleveland Browns. I’ll let the Browns talk about his evaluations… I haven’t looked at it through that lens.
“I’m looking at it through the lens of somebody that we need to compete against this weekend. His growth and development is not my charge. Preparing a plan to minimize what he and they do is my charge.”
It wasn’t the first time Tomlin had steered the conversation back to his team’s priorities.
Back in April 2025, after the NFL Draft, he spoke about Pittsburgh’s first-round pick, Derrick Harmon. The question came when the Steelers, then without a quarterback, passed on Sanders.
“As you guys can see, not only in that pick, but all our others, there’s a commitment here with this draft group to re-establish physicality and big man presence.
“And, certainly, Derrick Harmon fits that bill. We like his physical stature, we like his style of play. It’s just what we covet and what we need.”
That message hasn’t changed. Tomlin remains focused on building the Steelers’ identity, not getting caught up in storylines outside the locker room.
