Arsenal find themselves the envy of the Premier League as they sit five points clear at the summit of England’s top-flight.

The Gunners managed to avoid a scare on Saturday as they came from two goals down to record a thrilling 3-2 win in the dying seconds, thanks to a wondergoal from Reiss Nelson.

Now, it has been revealed what some Manchester United players think of Arsenal’s title charge.

What’s the story?

Well – according to the Daily Mail – some Manchester United players believed they were capable of catching Arsenal up in the Premier League after beating Newcastle to the Carabao Cup.

Confidence was high at Old Trafford, and there was growing belief that the Red Devils could surge up the Premier League and bridge the gap on Arsenal, which was 11 points before last weekend’s fixtures.

Manchester United also have a game in hand over the Gunners.

Then came the humbling 7-0 defeat on Merseyside, and the gap between Arsenal and Manchester United is now 14 points.

A title charge seems almost impossible for Erik ten Hag’s side as things stand, and the focus should realistically be on nailing down third place.

At the time of writing, Tottenham are four points behind the Red Devils in fourth, while Liverpool are seven points behind in fifth.

Arsenal should be pleased by Manchester United comments

While some Arsenal fans may choose to laugh at the fact some Manchester United players felt they could catch them, it should actually be viewed as a huge compliment.

Mikel Arteta has clearly set the standards for others to try and match this season, and the fact those at Old Trafford were talking about Arsenal so soon after winning a trophy emphasises how the Spaniard has turned things around at the Emirates Stadium.

Now, Arteta’s challenge is to see the title race through, and establish himself in Arsenal folklore.
