Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliot has given his verdict as to what training under new boss Arne Slot is like.

Jurgen Klopp announced towards the end of last season that he would be ending his nine-year association with Liverpool in what was an incredibly successful time for the Reds as they won all there was to win in England.

Despite Liverpool being interested in Ruben Amorim, of Sporting Lisbon, the Reds eventually settled on Feyenoord manager Arne Slot, who guided the Dutch giants to the Eredivisie title in 2022/23.

Liverpool have been quiet this summer in terms of transfer business and this will force the club’s current crop of players to perform.

Harvey Elliot makes ‘elegant’ Arne Slot point

One player who will have to step up for the Reds this current campaign is Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliot, with Lucas Leiva tipping Elliott for big things next season.

Last season for Liverpool, as they finished third in the Premier League, Elliott made 34 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils, scoring three times and providing six assists. Elliott also provided four assists in the UEFA Europa League.

Speaking to The Athletic, Elliott was keen to praise Slot and explained why it was so different to Klopp.

“The style of play is a lot different, it’s more about in possession now, very elegant,” Elliott says. “It’s been really enjoyable. We’re three weeks into pre-season and the details we’ve learned and the depth we’re going into is really interesting.

“The gaffer’s style is about keeping the ball, one touch and two touch, but I’m not going to give away all the details.

“We’re learning different roles and it’s key for us to get the understanding now with one another — where we need to be in certain situations.

“It is going to come with time, but it is not something that will happen overnight. We have full belief in what he is saying and what he wants us to do.”

Slot’s impact will be key for Liverpool without new signings

As mentioned, the club have failed to make a signing this summer which may well be of concern to fans of the Reds.

However, Slot certainly has a record of getting the best out of the players at his disposal and he will need to do that at Anfield this season.

Liverpool remain interested in Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres but apart from that, things are certainly quiet at Anfield this summer.

Elliott will have to be one of these players who steps up for the Reds next season.
