Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim, Liverpool’s top target to replace Jurgen Klopp this summer, has spoken out about his future.

Amorim has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Klopp and talks were held recently between Liverpool and his representatives.

HITC has revealed that talks were felt to have been ‘productive’ and Liverpool very much see him as their leading candidate to come in this summer.

Ruben Amorim reacts angrily

However, Amorim has been left annoyed by reports which emanated early this week suggesting that agreement had been reached with Liverpool over his personal terms.

HITC confirmed that despite talks, any agreement was not yet reached and that the talks that had taken place were with his representatives. HITC understands that communication is ongoing, but not directly with Amorim at this juncture.

Amorimo has now reacted angrily to the claims that he terms are in place for him to move to Liverpool.

The Portuguese boss told a press conference: “This is the last time I’m going to talk about my future. There was no interview and certainly no agreement.

“The only thing we all want here is to be champions with Sporting, nothing will change. I’m the Sporting coach and there was no interview or agreement with any club.

Amorim focused on Sporting duties

“I’m just focused, as always, on representing my club. As I no longer have anything else to say…

“There will be no interviews or agreements with the Sporting coach. The matter is completely resolved, whether related to this club or another.”

Amorim, who took charge of Sporting in early 2020, has one league title to his name but is now on course for his second title with the club as they currently sit four points clear of their closest rivals Benfica with a game-in-hand.
