Arsenal have been linked with a surprise move for former Manchester City, and current Bayern Munich, winger Leroy Sane.

Leroy Sane enjoyed an incredibly successful period at Manchester City with the German winger winning back-to-back Premier League titles during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons with the pacey wideman awarded the Young Player Of The Season Award.

Sane decided to depart the Etihad Stadium due to a perceived lack of game time in the North of England and decided a move to Bayern Munich would be best for his career.

Since his move to Bayern, Sane has scored 48 goals and provided 50 assists in 148 games which is an incredible return.

Sane linked with surprise move to Arsenal

Arsenal confirmed the signing of Riccardo Calafiori earlier this week but the Gunners will not stop there.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are also interested in Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad but the Gunners have been linked with a surprise move for Sane.

According to Sky Sports News on X, Arsenal are keen on the German winger whose contract is set to expire in 2025.

Sane is reportedly in talks over a new deal at Bayern but the Gunners are said to be keeping an eye on developments.

Liverpool have also been interested in Sane but it is the Gunners who have reportedly stolen a march on their rivals.

Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Raphinha and Sane could well play on that right-hand side if needed but with Bukayo Saka in that role, it’s hard to see where he would fit in.

Sane full of praise for Mikel Arteta

Arteta was part of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff during Sane’s time in England and it seems the pair struck up a good bond.

Speaking to The Mirror earlier this year, Sane said: “It was great. I was pleased to work with him because he actually really helped me at City.

“We had a lot of individual talks about how I can improve, strengths, my weaknesses, we worked a lot. I made huge improvements under him, he gave that to me.

“I still keep that in my mind and put that in my game – positioning, how to behave in certain positions. I’m thankful.”

Sane and Arteta could be set for a reunion this summer if the Gunners formulate their interest.
