Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has vented his frustrations with some Arsenal supporters after hearing some fans write off Kieran Tierney.
The Gunners have two quality left-backs in the squad at the moment, and right now, it seems as though Nuno Tavares is the number one choice in that spot.
Inevitably, with the mass tribalism that exists within any fanbase in modern football, Arsenal fans are divided on this matter, and on social media, there’s very rarely scope for intelligent discussion.
Some fans have been saying some rather strange things about Tierney since Tavares’ emergence, and Wright isn’t happy with what he’s seen.
What’s been said about Tierney and Arsenal fans?
Wright was speaking about the left-back debate at Arsenal.
“I hope Tavares still plays, and now I’m seeing some people talk about Kieran Tierney saying ‘we don’t care about him anymore’ what is wrong with our fanbase man? Honestly, they’re so ridiculous,” Wright said.
Modern fandom
Wright isn’t happy with Arsenal fans, but this is a much wider issue than the Tierney/Tavares debate.
Nowadays fans are way too quick to jump onto the latest bandwagon, and in doing so, they seemingly lose all sense of perspective.
Does Tavares deserve great credit for his performances since coming in? Of course he does, but does that have to be coupled up with fans slating or writing Tierney off? No.
Imagine if social media was around during Wright’s era. You’d probably have fans calling the Arsenal legend a fraud or washed-up after Nicolas Anelka’s arrival at Highbury, and we’re sure that the striker would have gone to great lengths to shut those so-called supporters up.
