Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has delivered an update on Mauricio Pochettino and his potential move to Real Madrid.
Pochettino has of course been linked with a return to Tottenham Hotspur in recent days, but after Real Madrid parted ways with Zinedine Zidane, it was reported that he could be on his way to the Spanish capital.
However, Castles is led to believe that Los Blancos haven’t earmarked Pochettino as their number one candidate.
What’s been said?
Castle says that Madrid haven’t been sending out signals that Pochettino is the man they want in charge after Zidane’s departure.
“It’s not clear to me from what I’m hearing from Madrid that he’s the preferred candidate to take that job for them any longer,” Castles said.
“They watched what happened towards the end at Tottenham and what’s happened in Paris, and we all know that it’s easy for a coach’s status on the market in the space of one job and one season of performance in a job, and I think that’s where Pochettino is at the moment.”

Clear run for Spurs
This is great news if you’re a Tottenham fan.
Spurs supporters were worried earlier this week that Pochettino could choose Madrid over them, but if the Spanish club don’t want him, Spurs should have a clear shot at bringing him back to north London.
Of course, getting him out of PSG is easier said than done, but at least it seems as though they won’t have to compete with Real Madrid for the Argentine’s services.
