‘What I know’: Tim Sherwood makes Levy transfer claim after Conte’s Tottenham outburst

Tim Sherwood has stated that from ‘what I know’ Daniel Levy isn’t the type of person to sell players if the Tottenham manager doesn’t want them gone, as he told Premier League Productions (23/02/22 at 10:50 pm).

The former midfielder was making reference to Antonio Conte’s outburst after the Burnley defeat on Wednesday night and that well-documented interview to Sky Italia.

The Spurs boss pointed out in the interview that, during the January transfer window, the club let four players leave and only signed two players in return.

For some, that was the Italian firing shots at the club, for others, including Conte himself, it was misquoted and him simply pointing out the facts.

Either way, after Conte seemingly threatened to quit his Tottenham post after the club’s fourth defeat in five yesterday, Sherwood made this comment about the club’s transfers from his own dealings of Levy himself.

“Last week, he (Conte) said he did an interview in Italy (with Sky Italia) and he got misquoted,” said Sherwood. “He said ‘the players that have left the club, they are weaker. They signed two and they lost four’.

“But he wasn’t playing those players. What I know of Daniel Levy is he never ever forces any manager at that football club to sell players. If they want to keep them, he is happy to keep them.

“Now, perhaps he never got to bring in the players he wanted to bring in during the window. But he was happy with them on Saturday because they had a fantastic result at Manchester City.

“After the game, he said ‘everything was great’. You get a poor result and his emotions are too (much). I think he needs to keep it on a level keel. He’s a very good manager. A proven winner.”

This could simply be mind games from Conte and him trying different tactics to get the best out of this current crop of players.

Perhaps that alarming post-match interview will kick a few players into touch and transform those negative results into positive ones.

Or the out-spoken Conte could simply be sending out messages to the powers that be at the club.

Perhaps this is his message that he needs to be properly backed during the summer transfer window because it’s going to take a lot to sort the club’s mess out.
