Kieran Trippier has told BBC Radio 5 Live that Antonio Conte reminds him of his old manager Diego Simeone – after the Tottenham manager said he will have to speak to the board about his future, after defeat to Burnley.
Conte said after the 1-0 loss to Burnley on Wednesday night – which came a few days after the stunning 3-2 win over Manchester City – his future could be in doubt at Tottenham. Tim Sherwood said it sounds like he could resign.
More will come out in the next couple of days but the turn around is quick. Tottenham take on out-of-form Leeds on Saturday in a lunchtime kick-off, a side that suffered a heavy 6-0 loss to Liverpool on Wednesday evening.
Immediately after Conte’s comments, ex-Spurs defender Trippier spoke of how the Italian reminds him of Simeone – with whom he worked alongside at Atletico Madrid. He says how Conte will be frustrated, and disappointed.
“He’s that type of manager. Similar to Simeone, emotional, he’s a winner at every club he’s been at. He will be frustrated, disappointed after the win over Man City. There are going to be questions, of course,” Trippier said.

Conte joined Tottenham on an 18-month contract and it means that if the Italian does decide to walk, it could happen. He is not tied down to a long-term, fixed deal that forces him to remain in North London.
He has already spoken about his frustration and surprise at a lack of incomings in January, which he has since tried to qualify by stating he is happy with Tottenham’s squad. But defeat to Burnley is a new low.
After what many hoped would be a kickstart against Manchester City, losing to Burnley at Turf Moor makes the win over Pep Guardiola’s side a waste of time. The top four is miles away for Tottenham, now.
