Hardik Pandya has revealed that his girlfriend, Mahieka Sharma, helped him rediscover his love for cricket just in time for the ICC T20 World Cup.

The Indian all-rounder has endured a turbulent period both on and off the field, but before the global tournament approaches, Pandya has spoken openly about the personal reset that has reignited his hunger for the game.

Hardik Pandya credits Mahieka Sharma for rediscovering joy

Speaking on the JioHotstar show, Pandya explained how Mahieka Sharma played a key role in helping him reconnect with cricket.

“I took some time in my life to figure out how to bring that out. That’s when Mahieka came into my life. We started talking about the sport and how to bring that child back.

“She helped me rediscover that excitement for the game that I always had,” Pandya said.

The comments suggest Pandya’s transformation has been as much mental as technical. After facing scrutiny over form and leadership in recent seasons, he appears to have leaned on close support to rediscover the enthusiasm that once defined his fearless approach.

Pandya also highlighted the sheer volume of work he has put in behind the scenes. He made it clear that rediscovered excitement alone would not be enough without serious commitment.

“I went behind the scenes, worked really hard, and had a good amount of batting sessions. There were days when I was on the ground for six to seven hours.

“When I went to the NCA, I would go at 3:30 in the afternoon and finish at 12:30 at night. I was usually the last person to leave and shut the lights off,” Pandya added.

The description paints a picture of deliberate preparation rather than quick fixes. Long sessions at the National Cricket Academy underline his determination to sharpen both fitness and technique.

For Pandya, the blend of personal support and relentless training appears to have restored belief at a crucial moment.

If that rediscovered spark translates onto the field, India may benefit from a player who feels recharged at exactly the right time.
