Stephen Warnock says Manchester United fans are ‘frustrated’ with their owners, the Glazers, that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been able to secure the transfer of Cody Gakpo from PSV ahead of the January transfer window opening.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United – owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and the Glazers, respectively – are now up for sale.

Despite that, it’s those in the Anfield boardroom bringing in a new face before the January window can open on Sunday and that of a player Erik ten Hag wanted at Old Trafford.

It’s going to be interesting just how far Liverpool push the boat out knowing they could be sold in next to no time, the same with Man United.

The reason is, if either club opt against bringing in what’s needed in January, that can affect their Premier League form, and as a result, they lose out on an already-packed race for Champions League football.

That will in turn cause them issues during the summer window, with Liverpool already easing that possible worry, as Warnock told the Football Show on Sky Sports.

“The interesting thing is that we look at the two clubs, we are looking at Liverpool and Manchester United,” said Warnock.

“Liverpool have got a potential sale on the horizon, as Manchester United have. However, Liverpool have still got that deal done, the Gakpo one behind-the-scenes very quickly and ahead of Manchester United.

“I think Manchester United fans are a little frustrated to say ‘what are the Glazers doing? Where is that deal? Why has that not happened for us?’

“I think because Liverpool have got people in better positions who can now deal with that.”

MAN UNITED NEEDS PLAYERS MORE

Don’t get it wrong, both Liverpool and Man United are in need of players from the market.

Whilst those at Anfield have added Gakpo to their ranks, it’s the midfield that is a big concern and at least one new face should be brought in during the January window.

On the other hand, ten Hag needs a forward, yes Marcus Rashford is bang in form, but he can’t go it alone.

Either way, this next month could be massive in the path these two English giants set out for themselves.
