Some Tottenham fans on social media are far from happy with Karim Benzema’s ranking in the Ballon d’Or voting.
Benzema was ranked as the fourth-best player in the world for 2021, a remarkable 19 places above Harry Kane, and that has rubbed Spurs fans up the wrong way.
To be honest, we can understand why Tottenham supporters are irked by these rankings. After all, Kane arguably had a better year than Benzema.
The Englishman won the award for being the top scorer and the top assister in the Premier League in 2020/21, while he also helped lead England to a Euros final.
Meanwhile, Benzema didn’t win the Golden Boot in La Liga, while he also wasn’t the top assister in Spain either.
Factor in France’s early exit at the Euros, and you can understand why Spurs fans are making a case about Kane being better than Benzema.
Of course, you also have to factor in that Benzema has 11 league goals this season while Kane only has one in the Premier League, but based on the entire calendar year, it’s much closer than the Ballon d’Or rankings suggest.
