Jonathan David does not want to move to Leeds United, according to The Scottish Sun.
It has been reported that Leeds – who will play in the Premier League next season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship this campaign – and German club Borussia Moenchengladbach are interested in signing David from Gent in the summer transfer window.
Lille are also interested in the 20-year-old forward and have had two bids turned down, with Gent looking for £27 million as transfer fee for the youngster, according to the report.
The report had added that the Canada international has told his club Gent that he only wants to move to Lille this summer, with the Belgian side believing that the Ligue 1 outfit will eventually meet his demands.
Blow for Leeds United
Described by former Gent manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck as “a phenomenon” in Het Nieuwsblad in April, as covered by HITC Sport here, David is a very good and promising young forward who has a bright future ahead of him.
According to WhoScored, David made 24 starts and three substitute appearances in the Jupiler League, scoring 18 goals in the process, and also scored three goals in seven Europa League matches for Gent this past season.
Leeds do need to sign a striker to compete with Patrick Bamford, and David would be a brilliant signing for the Whites in the long run, but it seems that he wants to move to Lille instead.
