Speaking on the Gwlad Tidings podcast, Patrick Boyland has offered an update on the rumoured swap deal between Everton and Roma for Bernard and Robin Olsen.

Bernard’s agent has been very outspoken about his client’s future in recent times, and Boyland says that the rumours of a swap deal aren’t wide of the mark, although the deal isn’t close to being finalised as of yet.

“People close to Bernard, certainly his agent, has been quite outspoken in the Italian press saying that the swap (with Robin Olsen) is a possibility. We’ve heard the same, although it’s far from a given,” Boyland said.

“But Everton, we reported over the summer that Everton were looking in the summer at the possibility of cashing in on Bernard, and I think the reasons for that are obvious.”

The journalist then went on to give his reasons as to why he thinks Everton want rid of Bernard.

The Brazilian’s days at Goodison Park certainly seem to be numbered after it was reported the Toffees were prepared to sell him this month, and if Everton can pull this swap off they will have every right to be pleased with their business.

The Toffees have needed a goalie to compete with Jordan Pickford for quite some time now, and it seems as though Olsen is the right man to provide a healthy level of competition.

Bernard, meanwhile, hasn’t been all that impressive since arriving on Merseyside, and after starting just two Premier League games this season, it’s hard to argue that he’ll be missed all that much at Everton.

This certainly seems like a transfer to keep an eye on, and while it’s not a done deal yet, it seems as though things could be moving in that direction.
