Kaveh Solhekol has told Sky Sports News that after making contact with Antonio Conte’s representatives, they have played down the chances of him joining Tottenham Hotspur.

Reports in the Italian media yesterday suggested that Tottenham had offered Conte a mega money deal.

He then left his role at Inter Milan, sparking wild rumours that he could join Spurs in the near future.

Tottenham are believed to be closing in on appointing their new manager, after taking a long time to find Jose Mourinho’s successor.

But Solhekol says that he has been told that Tottenham want a ‘softer’ manager than Conte.

“We’ve been making some phone calls and talking to people close to Antonio Conte,” he said.

“What they are telling us this evening is that they think Spurs are looking for a softer manager whose personality would be easier to manage.”

The Sky reporter did go on to say that if Spurs could present their project, then the Italian may well be open to joining.

“If we’re talking about Spurs it would have to be a project that Antonio Conte would be able to buy into. You would have to say we have a fantastic stadium, a fantastic training ground and you’ve got Harry Kane and money to spend.

“If Spurs were to say that to him, I think he would listen to what they have to say but other jobs may become available.”

Good appointment?

The appeal of Conte is clear for Tottenham, as he is a serial winner.

Conte has won the Premier League before with Chelsea and has just led Inter to the Seria A title.

However, his counter-attacking style doesn’t fit the ideal model of what Daniel Levy appears to be looking for.

Conte is more a manager in the style of a Mourinho than a Mauricio Pochettino.

And it may just be that now isn’t the right time for him to step in at Spurs.
