West Ham United want Lorient striker Terem Moffi but appear to have been priced out of a deal during this month’s transfer window.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that West Ham have asked about a potential move for Moffi this month.

However, Lorient are demanding £25million and West Ham are ‘unable’ to meet that asking price.

The Sun add that West Ham have held discussions about a move for Moffi but it looks like no deal will be done.

West Ham allegedly turned their attention to Moffi after Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri indicated that he didn’t want a move to the London Stadium.

The Hammers appear desperate to sign another striker despite spending big money on Gianluca Scamacca over the summer.

En-Nesyri and Moffi seemingly won’t be joining this month, so David Moyes will have to move on to his next target.

West Ham out of Terem Moffi race is huge for Everton

Moffi, 23, has been a sensation since Lorient took a risky punt on him back in 2020.

The Nigerian has now scored 33 times for Lorient and 10 of those goals have come in just 16 Ligue 1 outings this season.

Formerly of Kauno Zalgiris and Riteriai in Lithuania, Moffi earned his big move after five goals in 11 games for Kortrijk in Belgium.

Moffi’s rise has been pretty incredible and Lorient are now in a position to demand that huge £25million fee.

West Ham may not be able to pay it, but what about Southampton or Everton?

The Mail’s report notes that both Southampton and Everton want to sign Moffi this month as they chase attacking additions.

Everton need all the help they can get right now and West Ham seemingly dropping out of the Moffi race should be a huge boost for Frank Lampard and co, giving them one less competitor for his services.

Hailed as a ‘nightmare’ for defenders by Kevin Hatchard, Moffi looks destined for a huge move soon – and Everton will now hope to win the race.
