West Ham are reportedly on the verge of missing out on Lorient striker Terem Moffi, with OGC Nice set to sign the attacker after having an offer accepted by the Ligue 1 side.

According to L’Equipe, Nice have a deal in place to sign the Nigerian international this month, with the south-coast French side first needing to offload 31-year-old striker Andy Delort before they can finalise a deal with Moffi this month.

The news will come as a killer blow for West Ham, with the Hammers already having a £25m bid rejected by Lorient according to Sky Sports News, with the 23-year-old attacker now set to snub a move to east London in favour of signing for French rivals Nice.

Labelled as a ‘nightmare’ for defenders by journalist Kevin Hatchard, Moffi has been one of the best players in Ligue 1 this season as Lorient are currently enjoying one of their best top-flight campaigns in years, with the versatile forward bagging 12 goals in Ligue 1.

With West Ham in desperate need of an attacker this window, signing Moffi would have been an excellent option for David Moyes, with the east London side currently sat in the Premier League relegation zone. However, Nice have seemingly won the race for the forward.

Indeed, the news will come as a massive blow for the Irons, who recently looked like the strong favourites to sign Moffi this January. However, Nice’s offer was seemingly more attractive, with a deal now on the verge of being completed for the Nigerian star.

Moffi has been one of the most in-demand forwards in Europe this January, and for good reason. However, Nice winning the race for the attacker is a surprising outcome given how much Premier League interest there has been in the Nigerian, with West Ham missing out on the forward a huge blow.

As we know, the Irons need firepower this window if they’re to stand any chance of avoiding the drop down to the Championship, and signing an attacker like Moffi would have been perfect for Moyes, with the Scottish manager running out of options in the market.
