West Ham United have considered Matt Doherty but a deal for the Tottenham Hotspur right back isn’t expected before the deadline.
West Ham have been very busy in the transfer market this summer and have looked to improve in almost every position.
A goalkeeper, two centre backs, a left back, a holding midfielder, a playmaker, a winger and a striker have all arrived at the London Stadium.
David Moyes has been backed handsomely and he wants one more signing before the deadline, with a right back now a priority.
West Ham United have considered Matt Doherty
Maybe we should have seen this coming.
Moyes looks to be building a whole new back four with Emerson Palmieri, Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer all arriving.
The only spot left is right back, where Vladimir Coufal maybe hasn’t been at his best of late.
The Sun’s Jack Rosser has now claimed on Twitter that West Ham made contact with Tottenham Hotspur to ask about a deal for Matt Doherty.
A deal was described as ‘unlikely’, even though Doherty’s role at Tottenham may be somewhat diminished this season.
The Irishman did find some form under Antonio Conte before an injury ended his season back in April.
Tottenham have since signed a new right wing back in Djed Spence and have kept hold of Emerson Royal too.
That means Doherty’s role at Tottenham is unclear and a move away before the deadline may have actually made sense.
West Ham and Tottenham – who met in the Premier League on Wednesday night – aren’t exactly on the best terms though as fierce London rivals.
Deals between the two clubs are never going to be easy and Doherty isn’t expected to join the Hammers.
Tottenham may well have wanted a permanent deal rather than a loan, meaning West Ham’s pursuit of the 30-year-old appears doomed.
West Ham’s right back focus may now be Ola Aina, after a first bid was rejected by Serie A club Torino.
