During the summer of 2020, all the signs pointed to Layvin Kurzawa leaving Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

The France international had lost his place to Juan Bernat at the Parc des Princes. With his contract expiring and with interest from across the Channel, it looked for all the world that Kurzawa would have a new club by the time the season kicked off.

Eyebrows were certainly raised, then, when PSG performed a U-turn that not even Baba Vanga saw coming, handing their out-of-favour left-back a new four-year deal complete with a sizeable pay rise.

“I was surprised!” Kurzawa admitted. He wasn’t the only one.

Some 18 months later, PSG’s decision to extend Kurzawa’s contract looks even stranger now than it did at the time.

If the former Monaco defender was the club’s second-choice left-back then, he is even further down the pecking order these days.

With Nuno Mendes and Abdou Diallo moving ahead of him in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, Kurzawa has played just nine minutes of football all season long.

He’s been left out of the matchday squad for each of PSG’s last 18 Ligue 1 matches.

Do not expect Les Parisiens to stand in Kurzawa’s way, then, if West Ham United turn their interest into something stronger.

According to FootMercato, David Moyes’ Hammers are eyeing up a January deal for PSG’s long-serving £20 million forgotten man.

Will Layvin Kurzawa leave PSG for West Ham United?

Moyes admitted to Football London, after Wednesday’s EFL Cup semi-final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, that West Ham were ‘missing’ their injury-hit left-back Aaron Cresswell.

It is no coincidence that, with Cresswell on the sidelines, the London giants have won just one of their last six games.

And while Cresswell’s replacement Arthur Masuaku was responsible for securing that sole victory in six – bamboozling Edouard Mendy with a mishit cross which flew into Chelsea’s net three weeks ago – the Congo international has struggled to fill his team-mate’s boots on the left-hand side.

As West Ham crashed out of the EFL Cup in midweek, Masuaku failed to contain an impressive Steven Bergwijn while offering none of the quality Cresswell brings to the table at the other end of the pitch.

With West Ham keen on Kurzawa, a mishit cross against Chelsea won’t be enough to save Masuaku’s London Stadium career.
