West Ham suffered a woeful 3-1 loss to Europa League finalists Rangers at Ibrox on Tuesday night as the Gers stunned the Hammers in the second half – and here are our Hammers player ratings:
Lukasz Fabianski – 4
Despite Rangers’ dominance, the Polish goalkeeper was rarely tested by the Rangers attack in the first half. But in the second half, he allowed Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo to score at the near post. Alphonse Areola has a chance.
Ben Johnson – 7 (55, replaced by Coufal)
Coming up against arguably Rangers’ best player in Ryan Kent, Johnson had his work cut out. But he defended well enough, making the odd tackle. In possession, the Hammers academy product looked very good. Solid outing.
Kurt Zouma – 6
Against a physical striker in Antonio Colak, the ex-Chelsea man was very good in the air. Rangers constantly probed in the first half. Could do little about any of the goals in the second half. Harsh on Zouma, but Rangers excellent.
- Newcastle and Tottenham want Leeds star, but Elland Road is his best move
- Robin Koch an unsung hero at right-back in Leeds’ final games of 21/22
Nayef Aguerd – 7 (23, replaced by Diop)
Looked really good until he was forced off with injury. A brilliant tackle on Colak at the last minute to deny him from scoring, but it came at a cost – the defender seemingly injuring his left ankle or lower leg.
Aaron Cresswell – 4
Steady in the first half, but the introduction of Matondo got the better of Cresswell. Dived in and allowed Matondo to create the third. Second and third goals started on the left flank, too. Poor second half.
Declan Rice – 5 (55, replaced by Soucek)
Solid in possession but somewhat off the pace, perhaps still working his way back to full fitness. Booked for taking down Ryan Kent in full flow. West Ham will expect better from their skipper going forward.
Manuel Lanzini – 5 (55, replaced by Downes)
Pretty subdued performance from Lanzini, who looked to play in a box-to-box role alongside Rice. But hardly had much of an impact on the game and was subbed after Rangers scored their second goal. Better required.

Jarrod Bowen – 8
Probably West Ham’s best player. Tried to take on Borna Barisic on numerous occasions and either got to the byline or cut inside and tried to make something happen. Plenty of effort and endeavour, but did not get a goal he deserved.
Said Benrahma – 4 (55, replaced by Vlasic)
Very quiet from Benrahma. Not good enough from a player that has been linked with the exit door this summer. You would think he had a point to prove, but often lethargic. Bowen and Fornals offered much more.
Pablo Fornals – 6 (75, replaced by Coventry)
Decent effort from Fornals. Worked hard and picked up some decent positions, and the end product was almost there. He came close to scoring a low effort in the second 45, but a brilliant save from Jon McLaughlin stopped him.
Michail Antonio – 5 (75, replaced by Mubama)
Very quiet night for Antonio up top. Very isolated in the first half as Rangers dominated possession at Ibrox. Did little to change that. Eventually replaced after 75 minutes but went under the radar in the 3-1 loss.
Other notable performances:
Tomas Soucek – 7 (35)
Changed the game more in West Ham’s favour in the second 45, and look delighted when he managed to score from a corner. Reduced the Rangers onslaught. He can be proud of his performance, one of a few West Ham players.
