West Ham want Nayef Aguerd and their move for the Rennes defender could lead to Newcastle United missing out on Reims star Wout Faes.
West Ham are in the market for a new centre back this summer and seemingly fancy adding a left-sided defender.
Angelo Ogbonna has filled that role in recent times but he is now 34 and is coming off a major season-ending injury.
The Hammers may need to think about Ogbonna’s eventual heir and Aguerd has emerged as the favourite for that role.
West Ham want Nayef Aguerd
West Ham wanted Rennes defender Aguerd last summer as reports in his native Morocco suggested that David Moyes was keen.
The rumours have returned as Moyes allegedly wanted to have Aguerd on board at West Ham by the end of last week.
Fabrizio Romano claims that West Ham are closing in on a deal to sign Aguerd with final details being sorted out.
The Moroccan ace, 26, has impressed in France and now looks to be nearing a move to East London.
Rennes understandably want a replacement for such an important player though and they appear to have a name in mind.

Jeunes Footeux report that Aguerd will join West Ham in a €35million (£30million) deal and Rennes will turn to Wout Faes.
It’s claimed that the Belgian defender is a key name on the Rennes radar to come in and take over from Aguerd at Rennes.
That may not mean all that much to West Ham but it will to Newcastle United.
Reports from Belgium in May suggested that Newcastle were ready to move for Faes alongside striker Hugo Ekitike.
Ekitike looks set for Newcastle and Faes is on their radar too, possibly for a bargain price of just £9million.
Yet with West Ham’s money heading to Rennes, Faes may slip through Newcastle’s net and stay in France after all.
