West Ham are keen on Nayef Aguerd – and David Moyes hopes to have a deal to sign the Rennes defender done this week.

You can understand why West Ham are looking into signing another centre back this summer.

Angelo Ogbonna is coming off a major injury and is now 34, whilst Issa Diop is surely set for the exit door after another frustrating season.

Another left-sided centre back to ultimately take over from Ogbonna would be ideal, and Moyes appears to be closing in on his top target.

West Ham are keen on Nayef Aguerd

The Daily Mail report that Moyes wants Rennes star Aguerd and hopes to have the deal done this week.

This is far from the first time West Ham have been linked with Aguerd.

Reports from Aguerd’s native Morocco last summer claimed that West Ham were moving for the defender.

Aguerd later suggested that he wanted to spend another year with Rennes and the French club didn’t want him go leave.

Yet just last week it was suggested that West Ham were back in talks to sign Aguerd in a deal worth around £17million.

It now seems that West Ham are moving closer and closer to finally signing Aguerd with Moyes hopeful of the deal being done within days.

Aguerd, 26, was excelling in Morocco with FUS Rabat before Dijon snapped him up in 2018.

Rennes pounced for him in 2020 and he has been outstanding ever since, becoming one of Ligue 1’s top defenders.

A Morocco international with 19 caps to his name, Aguerd is a tall centre back at 6ft 3in with the ability to carry the ball and pass out from the back.

Hailed as a ‘really very good’ by teammate Lovro Majer and praised for his leaping ability by boss Bruno Genesio, Aguerd has impressed in France and now looks poised for a big Premier League move to West Ham.
