West Ham fancy Joakim Maehle and could now rival Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the Atalanta star this summer.

Denmark travelled to take on Austria in the UEFA Nations League on Monday night.

The Danes picked up a 2-1 victory in Vienna as Jens Stryger Larsen bagged a late winner following Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s opener.

This was a good win for Kasper Hjulmand’s side and there were a number of scouts watching the game.

Tottenham and West Ham allegedly both sent scouts to watch Austria against Denmark with the Hammers’ targets now emerging.

West Ham fancy Joakim Maehle and Christian Eriksen

The Daily Star claim that West Ham had representation at the game in order to watch Christian Eriksen and Joakim Maehle.

It’s stated that West Ham are one of a number of teams interested in signing playmaker Eriksen.

Brentford star Eriksen is out of contract this summer and will be one of the most in-demand free agents around.

There is also Maehle, an attack-minded wing back who can play on either flank.

Maehle made a real name for himself at Euro 2020 last summer and is currently starring at Atalanta.

Maehle could be viewed as competition for both Aaron Cresswell and Vladimir Coufal with his versatility very appealing.

The problem for West Ham is that Tottenham not only want Eriksen but also Maehle.

Tottenham are chasing an emotional return for Eriksen and will stand a great chance of signing him this summer.

The Daily Mail also claimed in May that Tottenham are lining up Maehle to become their new right wing back.

That now looks like being Djed Spence of Middlesbrough, which could free up Maehle for a move to West Ham.

Signing both players seems unlikely for West Ham but they may well be able to secure Maehle to bolster David Moyes’ squad.
