West Ham United got their Premier League season off to a perfect start as they beat Newcastle United 4-2 at St James’ Park, with Jarrod Bowen starring.
The Hammers fell behind early on as Callum Wilson scored against West Ham yet again, but Aaron Cresswell equalised – only for Jacob Murphy to head Newcastle back in front.
The second half belonged to West Ham though, with Said Benrahma equalising, Tomas Soucek scoring from Michail Antonio’s saved penalty and Antonio adding a fourth himself.
Newcastle had no route back into the game and David Moyes was able to celebrate a great away day to kickstart West Ham’s Premier League campaign.
A number of West Ham players thrived on the day, and it might sound odd to pick out Bowen after he failed to get on the scoresheet.
However, Bowen was a threat throughout, and went on one superb mazy run which could have been capped off by a goal if not for Freddie Woodman’s save.

Bowen went into the game with rumours over his future hanging above him, with The Athletic reporting last month that Liverpool want to sign him.
West Ham will be glad he stayed put before the season started, and fans have been taking to Twitter to absolute rave about his performance against Newcastle.
Some have compared Bowen to Messi after his dribbling caused mayhem for Newcastle, adding that the winger is ‘special’ and ‘an absolute machine’.
