West Ham United wanted Dan-Axel Zagadou in August and the defender remarkably still finds himself without a club more than a month on.

David Moyes clearly felt that his West Ham back line needed to be improved this season.

Moyes brought in two new centre backs over the summer as Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer both arrived.

The Hammers even added another left back with Emerson Palmieri coming in from Chelsea.

One more centre back was even targeted on deadline day had Craig Dawson left the club, but that didn’t happen.

West Ham United wanted Dan-Axel Zagadou

Aguerd’s arrival was a major coup for West Ham but the Moroccan quickly suffered a serious injury.

That prompted West Ham to go back into the market again to sign Kehrer, who joined the Hammers on August 17th.

Just over a week earlier, West Ham were heavily linked with an alternative.

The Sun reported that West Ham were targeting a deal for free agent Dan-Axel Zagadou.

The French defender is out of contract having left Borussia Dortmund this summer and he looked pretty appealing.

Powerful, tall at 6ft 5in tall and naturally left-footed, Zagadou also has untapped potential at the age of just 23.

West Ham may well have looked into a deal but more than a month on, Zagadou still doesn’t have a club.

That’s right, the transfer deadline – and the 10 days afterwards – have passed without a club taking a chance on Zagadou.

Hailed as ‘excellent’ by Marco Rose, Zagadou looks to be the top defender on the market and yet is still sat waiting for a club to sign him.

A move to West Ham surely isn’t going to happen now but Moyes and co must be staggered that he’s still a free agent.

If Zagadou somehow makes it to January without having a club, maybe West Ham can explore it again whilst allowing Dawson to leave – but for now, it looks like a Premier League move won’t happen for Zagadou.
