Derby County were interested in West Bromwich Albion midfielder Sam Field in January.

West Bromwich Albion rejected Derby County’s move for Sam Field in the January transfer window, but they would have been better off letting the youngster move to Pride Park, as things stand.
The 19-year-old was kept at the Hawthorns as Alan Pardew did not want to risk weakening his midfield options.
Field has played just once in 2018, and it is hard to see exactly how his development has been helped by remaining at West Brom.

Field has been used in West Brom’s development side recently, with Pardew having reservations over starting the youngster.
And it would have surely been better for everyone is he was at Derby right now.

Field could have been playing regular football in the Championship, in a side challenging for promotion.
And that experience could have been brilliant for Field’s development, so rejecting Derby’s loan offer must go down as a mistake by West Brom now.
