‘We would be silly’: Some Spurs fans don’t want player to leave after performance v Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur fans have lauded Japhet Tanganga for his performance during his side’s 1-0 win against Arsenal on Sunday.

On paper, it was a pre-season friendly between the two North London rivals, but out on that pitch and in the stands, it was something completely different.

Spurs fans were wowed with what they saw from their academy star, who played as a right-back against the Gunners.

It was Tanganga’s run down the right-hand side, brute strength to bully his opponent off the ball, then calmness on the ball that helped to pick out Heung-Min Son for the only goal of the game.

Right-back is an area of concern for Spurs, but supporters feel they have found the man to fill that void.

Matt Doherty, albeit he produced his best football under Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves, struggled in his first season at Hotspur Way.

Whilst Serge Aurier has never looked convincing and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the club part ways with the error-prone defender this summer.

But will Tanganga be at the club by the time the transfer window slams shut on August 31?

There are suggestions that Nuno Espirito Santo might allow Tanganga to leave on loan, as Galatasaray are a club emerging as potential front-runners.

But given his performance today, the Spurs faithful have made it clear that they would be daft to go down that road.
