‘We will see’: Tottenham target drops transfer hint after £77m Chelsea bid

RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol has spoken out about his future following a summer of interest from Tottenham and a £77m transfer bid from Chelsea, with the Blues keen on signing the youngster.

Speaking to Index HR ahead of the UEFA Nations League with Croatia, the 20-year-old wonderkid revealed that he is happy in Germany with Leipzig, with Gvardiol a regular for the UEFA Champions League side and developing well in the Bundesliga with the European regulars.

Gvardiol exploded onto the scene last season following numerous impressive displays for Leipzig, reportedly drawing interest from the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham, though it was Chelsea who went big on the defender by launching a £77m offer for the versatile defender.

However, despite this club-record offer for Leipzig, the bid was rejected with Gvardiol signing a new deal with the east German side just days later, though reports still seem to suggest that this has done little to quell Chelsea’s interest in the former Dinamo Zagreb star.

Indeed, the defender will no doubt be back on the radar for many top sides in 2023, and when asked about a potential move, Gvardiol seemingly kept the door open on a move next year whilst also stating his happiness at being a Leipzig player.

Gvardiol said about his future: “Honestly, I’m happy at Leipzig. It’s only my second year, and I still have a lot to learn and need to work on myself. I have people who deal with it, I didn’t think about a transfer. We will see what happens in the winter.”

Chelsea have proven this summer that they are eager to spend big on new signings under new owner Todd Boehly, and there seems to be a more than likely chance that the Blues will push to sign Gvardiol next year despite interest from Tottenham other Premier League sides.

Adding Gvardiol to the likes of Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella will be quite the addition for Chelsea, and for Tottenham, missing out on the Croat will be a massive blow for the north London side given how perfect the centre-back would be for Antonio Conte’s side.
