Manchester City are reportedly eyeing RB Leipzig defender and Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol as a replacement for Nathan Ake, who could sign for Chelsea in the coming days.

According to the Daily Mail, the Premier League champions are interested in the Croatian international should Ake sign for Chelsea, with the Blues currently in talks to land the Dutch international for a reported £45m, with the centre-back likely to become the second City player to move to west London this summer.

Raheem Sterling has reportedly agreed to a move to Chelsea already, with City making moves this summer to bulk up their attacking options with Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, two signings that have already seen the Manchester giants sell Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal.

And now, Ake looks set to join the list of high-profile departures from City, with the defender looking likely to sign for Chelsea, and the Manchester side are now looking at Gvardiol as a replacement, a talent who Tottenham are also reportedly interested in.

However, Leipzig’s stance on their star defender has remained the same all summer, they will not sell Gvardiol unless a crazy offer was to come in for the 20-year-old defender, with some reports placing his valuation at around £80m.

Hailed as ‘extraordinary’ by Croatia legend and former Bayern Munich star Ivica Olic, Gvardiol has the potential to become one of the best defenders in Europe, and with City now eyeing the Bundesliga star, the Premier League champions could move to sign the centre-back this summer.

City could realistically sign Gvardiol this summer

Despite the huge signings of Haaland and Kalvin Phillips, City look set to turn a huge profit this summer given how much the Manchester side have managed to do in terms of outgoings, and because of this, a move for Gvardiol could realistically happen this summer.

Indeed, it would still take some doing from the club, yet with Ake set to join Chelsea and a player like Gvardiol a great option for City, the 20-year-old Croat could sign for the Etihad Stadium side this summer if Pep Guardiola’s side play their cards right.
