Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested to the club’s official website that Fabinho could play against Leicester City this weekend.
Klopp has said that the Brazil international defensive midfielder has trained with his Liverpool players.
The German has said that he will assess whether the 27-year-old – who cost the Reds £39 million in transfer fees when they signed him from AS Monaco in the summer of 2018, as reported by BBC Sport – is ready for the Premier League match against Leicester at Anfield on Sunday.
Fabinho has been struggling with a hamstring injury, but the Brazilian seems to be on his way to full fitness.
Klopp told Liverpool’s official website: “Players have to train in the big training sessions with the team – in team training, how we call it – and not only once. If it’s really serious and we have no other players then maybe one session has to be enough from time to time.
“It doesn’t happen really often, I can’t remember when it happened last time. But usually you prepare the players not only for one game and that means they need to be part of it.
“Fabinho was part of that. What we make of that, we will see because I don’t know yet how he reacts and all that stuff. But Fabinho was part of the normal team training.”
Major boost for Liverpool
Fabinho has played as a central defender this season, and it is very likely that if he plays against Leicester, then he will be deployed at the heart of the Liverpool defence.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are injured, meaning that the Reds are far from assured at the back.
Fabinho has done well when he has played in defence, and against a Jamie Vardy-led Leicester attack, his presence would be hugely beneficial for Liverpool.
