Tottenham are currently on the hunt to find a replacement for Antonio Conte – with Ruben Amorim said to be a target for Daniel Levy.

Spurs are believed to be looking at the 38-year-old to take the reins in N17 following the Italian’s remarkable outburst on Saturday, in which he called his own players selfish.

The Telegraph believe Conte will leave Tottenham this week, while it was The Athletic who claimed that Amorim is among the candidates to replace him.

If the Portuguese tactician does end up in north London, he will be immediately welcomed by one Tottenham star.

What’s the story?

Well, Amorim shares a close relationship with Pedro Porro.

The pair worked together as recently as January, before Tottenham signed the Spain international in a £39m deal from Sporting Lisbon.

After losing his star man to Spurs, Amorim told Portuguese news outlet Record: “Our relationship is very close, he is going to be missed. In football we get used to change from a very young age. One day they are our children, our best friends, and now he is Conte’s son. If we play against him, I already know his qualities. We remain friends.”

Clearly, Amorim and Porro formed a close bond together in Lisbon – now, they could reunite in N17.

Ruben Amorim would be a great appointment for Tottenham

In our view, Spurs should push hard to bring Amorim to north London – he looks set to have a seriously bright career in management.

The 38-year-old recently masterminded a Europa League Round of 16 win over Arsenal across two legs, and also guided Sporting Lisbon to their first league title in 19 years back in 2021.

Going back to Porro, the Spaniard has a remarkable record under Amorim, and he could genuinely become the Premier League’s best attacking right-back should he reunite with his old coach.

The 23-year-old impressively registered 32 goal involvements in 98 appearances under Amorim, in the form of 12 goals and 20 assists.

Some strikers would be satisfied with that record, let alone a defender.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Tottenham, as it remains to be seen who will replace Conte.
