Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry has given an update on Liverpool’s centre-back hunt, claiming that the Reds have re-established interest in Ben White.
The Brighton centre-back was linked with a move to Anfield back in the summer, but for one reason or another, that move never came to fruition.
However, it seems as though the Reds could go back in for White in the near future.
“We have information here at the Transfer Window, that Manchester United and Liverpool have re-established interest, which they showed first of all in the summer, in Brighton defender Ben White, who has made a very, very impressive start to the season at the south coast club, having, of course, completed last season on loan at Leeds United,” McGarry said.
Unfortunately, it seems as though the Reds face some serious competition for White’s signature from Manchester United.
However, there has been a significant power shift in the north west over the past few years, and Liverpool shouldn’t have too much trouble in convincing White that Anfield is a greater destination than Old Trafford at this moment in time, after all, the Reds are reigning Premier League and World champions.
So, would this be a good signing? The 23-year-old is great on the ball, and while Brighton’s defensive record seems to suggest that he needs to improve on that front, playing alongside Virgil van Dijk would certainly allow him to develop on that front.
This is a move that could be quite smart for Jurgen Klopp’s side, and it’s one that they should be hoping to beat Manchester United to.
