Liverpool are poised to make a bid of £20 million for Ben White, but Brighton and Hove Albion value the defender at £40 million, according to The Daily Star.

Chelsea are also reported to be interested in the 22-year-old central defender, and so are Leeds United, where the youngster was on loan this past season.

Classy player

White was superb for Leeds during his loan spell in 2019-20, as the 22-year-old played a hugely important role in the club winning automatic promotion from the Championship.

The youngster can play out from the back, is very good in possession, makes the right tackles at the right time, and he can also operate in central midfield.

According to WhoScored, the 22-year-old scored one goal and provided two assists in 46 Championship matches for Marcelo Bielsa’s side in 2019-20.

Former Leeds midfielder David Prutton raved about White after watching him against Brentford at Elland Road in the Championship on August 21, 2019.

Prutton told Sky Sports, as covered by HITC Sport here at the time: “Ben White has come from Brighton and looked extremely composed so far. He can chuck in a Cruyff, and you must be relieved that he has come in for Pontus Jansson.”

White has progressed and developed well since then, and there is no surprise that Liverpool, Leeds and Chelsea all are reportedly interested in him.

Even at £40 million, the youngster would be a good investment for any club.
