Wayne Rooney brought up Benjamin Sesko while breaking down Michael Carrick’s time as Manchester United interim boss.
Since Michael Carrick stepped in as interim manager, Benjamin Sesko hasn’t been in the starting lineup for any of Manchester United’s first five Premier League games.
Even without starting, the 22-year-old Slovenian forward has still made a difference off the bench for United under Carrick.
Earlier this month, Sesko came off the bench to score a stoppage-time winner against Fulham at Old Trafford, securing all three points for United.
After that dramatic finish against Fulham, he again made an impact with a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw at West Ham.

Benjamin Sesko came off the bench in the second half of Manchester United’s match against West Ham and scored a brilliant injury-time equaliser.
Carrick recently decided to use Bryan Mbeumo as his lone forward, which meant Sesko has started games on the bench more often.
Speaking on The Overlap, Wayne Rooney noted that Sesko isn’t the only player affected by Carrick’s changes to the squad.
The former United and England striker also highlighted Matheus Cunha, Harry Maguire, and Lisandro Martinez for their contributions under Carrick’s leadership.
“We’ve seen the impact [that Carrick has had],” Rooney said. “Cunha, when he came on in the first couple of games [and] had the impact. We’ve seen him run back and work hard.
“Sesko [is] coming on [and] having an impact. Harry Maguire looks back to the player we once thought he was. Martinez [as well], he’s [Carrick] having an impact on the whole squad, the whole football club.”

Rooney pointed to Carrick as a clear example of why clubs sometimes miss the talent they already have by looking outside for answers.
“And I think sometimes we’re quick to overlook what’s right there in front of you and say, ‘Oh, we’ve got this manager from Turkey or from Spain who’s going to come in and do this when actually they’ve no interest in the football club.’
“At least this will give the foundation for the club to keep building, whether in two, three, four years’ time kind of goes or moves on, the infrastructure will be back in that football club. That’s right.”
Carrick has guided United into fourth place in the Premier League table and their next fixture is away against Everton at Goodison Park on 23rd February.
