Watford keen to sign Leicester City’s Islam Slimani. His potential move could pave the way for West Brom to sign Troy Deeney.
Watford are expected to remain busy in the final few hours of the summer transfer window, as Marco Silva will be looking to bring in a striker before the deadline on Thursday.
Leicester forked out £29 million for his signature, breaking their club’s transfer record in the process, but the 29-year-old has failed to make a strong impression, managing only seven goals in 23 league games last season.
He has slipped down the pecking order at the club, and will be allowed to leave. If Slimani joins Watford, it could pave the way for West Bromwich Albion to make a dramatic late move for Troy Deeney.
The Telegraph reported last week that the Baggies are keen to sign Deeney, and are hopeful of getting him for less than the price that was quoted previously for the forward.
Watford had previously set a £25 million tag on their captain, but West Brom could get him at a slightly reduced price.
Deeney has been on Watford’s book since 2010; however, his position is under threat following the arrival of Andre Gray from Burnley, sparking interest from Premier League rivals.
He has only been on the pitch for a handful of minutes in the Premier League this term, and would further struggle to get regular games should Slimani arrive.
