Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Trent Alexander-Arnold and his performance against Everton at the weekend.

Despite being just 23 years old, Alexander-Arnold already has a reputation of being one of the best right-backs in the world, but against the Toffees on Sunday, his performance was below-par.

Indeed, the full-back played a number of misplaced passes, and, particularly in the first-half, he looked to be a yard or so off the pace.

Wright noted himself that Alexander-Arnold was looking nervy against Everton.

What’s Wright said about Alexander-Arnold?

The pundit discussed the right-back’s performance.

“I’ve got to say though at the start of the game, Trent, did you see? He was very nervy at the start of that game. I don’t know if it was because he’s from the area or what, but his passes wasn’t great, he wasn’t great. It’s the same with Thiago, he didn’t have that space to work in,” Wright said.

“The movement and the lack of space that Everton gave them, every pass that went into the final third was contested.”

Tough

Alexander-Arnold had a tough time, and, to be honest, it’s not surprising.

The full-back is at his best when Liverpool are playing quickly and he’s afforded a lot of space, but on Sunday, Everton were dropping deep and trying to frustrate Liverpool.

It wasn’t Alexander-Arnold’s best performance by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s nothing to really worry about. Merseyside Derbies can be stressful games for any player. Let alone for a local lad during a time Everton are battling relegation and Liverpool are challenging for the title.

Fingers crossed the full-back can get back to his best when Liverpool return to Champions League action this week against Villarreal.
