Tottenham Hotspur are still chasing a deal for Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu – but have now been given a warning by Walter Sabatini.
If there’s anything Tottenham need to bring in this summer, its’s defensive help for new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
New director of football Fabio Paratici will be in charge of the deals, and a host of Serie A players are being linked with Tottenham as a result of Paratici’s arrival.
The top target appears to be Tomiyasu, with reports in Italy last week suggesting that Tottenham had already agreed terms to sign the Japanese star.
The Athletic have added that Tottenham are confident of beating Arsenal to Tomiyasu’s signing, but they’re yet to meet the £21.5million asking price.
Tottenham will need to try and get that done soon, and Tomiyasu heading to the Olympics doesn’t exactly help them.
Now, Bologna technical director Walter Sabatini has told Calciomercato that the club are yet to close a deal for Tomiyasu to join Tottenham, but the move is building momentum.
Sabatini noted that Tomiyasu will only be sold if Bologna’s asking price is met, and they won’t be dictated to by any other club – and the Italian subsequently feels that a deal will be ‘very difficult’.
“Bologna will have to close it, we are not yet at this stage,” said Sabatini. “We are still building and it is clear that Tomiyasu only moves for the evaluation that has been attributed to him by Bologna and not by those of the others, so it will be very difficult,” he added.
