Speculation is rife that Arsenal could be pulling off yet another major signing this summer.
The Gunners announced their £50 million deal for Ben White on Friday.
But Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan now seems a genuine target and The Athletic reported this morning that the Argentine hitman is keen on a move to Arsenal.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Italian side are even looking for replacements and have identified Joaquin Correa of Lazio.
Here’s how some Arsenal fans reacted to Martinez – valued at £65 million according to Eurosport – potentially joining them after the Correa update:
Can they afford him?
Well despite spending £50 million on signing White from Brighton, only £30 million of that figure was paid up front.
In theory, Arsenal have saved themselves £20 million in the short term by not breaking the bank on White immediately.
But is there enough in the coffers for £65 million needed to sign Martinez? Well it’s doubtful.
Remember, Arsenal haven’t been shy in spending huge amounts of money in recent years but their football achievement hasn’t matched on the field, with the Gunners still failing to reach the Champions League and benefit from that revenue.
That being said, they are owned by a multi billionaire in the form of Stan Kroenke, who owes the fanbase a huge apology after the European Super League debacle.
And what a way to say sorry by handing Mikel Arteta and Edu the funds needed to sign the Inter marksman.
