Having signed for Middlesbrough following a series of failed loan spells, is Patrick Bamford good enough for the Premier League?
After promising loan spells at MK Dons and Derby County, Patrick Bamford joined Middlesbrough on loan for a season in 2014. Scoring 17 goals in 39 games, Bamford won many plaudits during his time at Boro, as well as winning the coveted Championship Player of the Year award.
Expecting big things, Bamford then endured a series of loans with different Premier League teams, including Crystal Palace, Norwich and Burnley. Making a total of just 14 appearances for those 3 clubs, Bamford has failed to make an impact since his sensational season with Middlesbrough; his electric goal-scoring form disappearing into thin air.
However, could a return to the club he won so many plaudits at be the best thing for him? Will Karanka be able to get the best out of Bamford? Or has his trio of failed loans soured things? HITC Sport asked Middlesbrough fans for their thoughts…

Patrick Bamford celebrates after scoring for Middlesbrough
“Any forward back at this club is good news, I’m sick of the defensive moves this manager makes!” said one Middlesbrough fan, who was clearly delighted to see Bamford back. Other fans however used words such as “sceptical” and “unsure” to describe their emotions at Bamford’s return, their memory of him clearly tainted by his poor couple of years in the Premier League.

One fan also suggested that Bamford may well have been unlucky with the types of managers who signed him. Perhaps managers such as Pardew and Dyche expected Bamford to be a different type of striker to the one he is? Or perhaps the former Chelsea man just isn’t cut out for life on a subs bench.
