Last night, Darwin Nunez enjoyed another eventful night in a Liverpool shirt as he helped the Reds beat Ajax in Champions League action.
The Uruguay international somehow missed an open goal in the first half, before scoring a considerably harder chance from Andy Robertson’s corner in the second half – it was a tremendous header into the bottom corner.
However, Nunez showed another side to his game during the 3-0 win in Amsterdam, which – if he keeps it up – will surely endear him to the Liverpool fans even when he isn’t finding the back of the net.
Darwin Nunez shines for Liverpool
Well, the Anfield faithful became accustomed to seeing a South American forward working his socks off up top when Luis Suarez shone on Merseyside, and Nunez looks to have a similarly dogged mentality.
Midway through the second half, the £140,000-a-week man could be seen charging back to cover a gap left in midfield, before reading the play well to intercept what could have been a dangerous pass.
Nunez then plays a progressive pass forward, and puts Liverpool on the attack out of nothing.
It may only have been a small moment from the game, although it showed that the Liverpool No.27 is by no means lazy, and remains full of desire to help his side in a defensive sense as well as with his goals.
Nunez now has six goals in 13 appearances across all competitions this season, and looks to be finding his feet at Liverpool after a rocky start.
Darwin Nunez can become a Liverpool fan favourite
In our view, Nunez boasts plenty of characteristics and footballing traits which can make him a cult hero at Anfield.

The Uruguayan never gives up even when things are going against him, as exemplified when he bounced back from missing an open goal in the first half to put Liverpool 2-0 up against the Dutch giants.
If Nunez can maintain his current form, he’ll have a fantastic debut campaign for the Reds.
